Involvement: Chamber Foundation: Scholarships
Jim Near Scholarships
The Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation is aiding
students with higher education in mind by making college
scholarships available. The scholarships are named in honor of the
late James Near, a resident and successful businessperson in our
community and with Wendy's International. The Chamber Foundation
will award six $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors in our
school district in the following manner:
- $1,500 to a graduate of Westerville North High School
- $1,500 to a graduate of Westerville South High School
- $1,500 to a graduate of Westerville Central High School
- $1,500 to a graduate of any private or parochial
school by a student residing in the Westerville City
School District
- $1,500 to any graduate residing in the Westerville City
School District who is enrolling in a two year program at a
Community College, Technical School, or a four year college
- $1,500 to any graduate residing in the Westerville City
School District who is enrolling at Otterbein College
Applicants will be considered on a basis of
involvement in extra curricular activities, need and
volunteerism/community involvement.
Applications will be available at high schools after February 23
each year or at the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce Office.

assistance to our leaders of tomorrow," stated Mark Ginty, Union
Savings Bank, Jim Near Scholarship Committee Selection Team Member. For more

guidance counselor at your student's high school or the Chamber
office.

sponsors a wonderful menu item at Nicole's Cafe: Balloon
Time Turkey Griller - shaved honey roasted turkey
and monterey cheese lightly grilled on batter dipped
sourdough bread, served with a side of honey cup mustard. (Nicole's
Cafe is located at 558 W. Schrock Rd. in the Plaza on the
corner of Schrock and Cleveland Ave., near Kinko's.)
$1 from each sandwich purchase is donated to the
Westerville Chamber Foundation Jim Near Scholarship fund.
Otterbein Master of Business Administration Scholarship
This scholarship is for qualified applicants for their first year in
the Otterbein MBA program. Qualifications are that the applicant:
- Has a college degree
- Has a letter of acceptance from the Otterbein MBA Program
- Be either a member of the Westerville Area Chamber of
Commerce or an employee of a member.
Life Long Learning Scholarships
These scholarships are designed for individuals desiring specific
coursework to advance their job performance and career.
To be considered the applicant must:
- Be a member or the employee of a member of the WACC
- Register for specific courses that are beneficial to the
applicant's employer and/or the career of the employee
- Register at an accredited institution or be performed by a
licensed or recognized provider of coursework in the industry.
- Not apply for course work that fulfills a mandated
educational requirement or be for the maintenance of any
license.
- Have the support of the employer such as partial funding,
matching funds or time off from work. However, the course
cannot be of the type that would qualify for 100% tuition
reimbursement by the employer.

any time during the year. Selections of recipients will be made
monthly.
